The sustainable DAF/Paccar MX13-390 kW Euro VI propulsion engines including factory-fitted SCR and DPF aftertreatment unit provide a suitable solution for ms. La Coruna. Thierry Vleminckx is the first Flemish skipper to opt for this.

Thierry says: "In 2016, I started looking into changing the engine room. At the Maritime Industry fair in Gorinchem, I saw the first Euro VI diesel engine at the Vink diesel booth. I delved into this and also looked at various options, such as an electric motor and battery-powered. Ultimately, the DAF/Paccar MX13 390 kW with a particulate filter for ms. La Coruna turned out to be the best option. This made it technically feasible and affordable for us to continue with our ship."
"The engine works very well. The complete installation takes up considerably less space. It consumes about 33% less fuel than the previous engine. When the wind comes from behind, we no longer have soot smell from the exhaust. When we now pass other ships, we are not bothered by their exhaust smell. The new engine is clean and super quiet. We can now hear more sounds than just those from the engine room. Also, during the trial run, it was found that there was a 90% decrease in vibration on board while sailing. Given the current developments and nitrogen oxide issues, this is the right time to go green."
